A highly skilled Orthopaedic Surgeon with international expertise, Dr. Janan Chandrananth grew up locally in Beaconsfield. He earned his medical degree from the University of Melbourne in 2012 and, subsequently, completed Orthopaedic training across Australia. Notably, Janan was selected for a prestigious 6-month paediatric Orthopaedic Fellowship at the Shriners Hospital for Children in Portland, Oregon, USA.
After becoming a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) and the Australian Orthopaedic Association (FAOrthA), Janan pursued further international fellowships in Japan and the United Kingdom. In Tokyo, he trained under the guidance of Professor Satoru Ozeki, past president of the Japanese Society Surgery of the Foot (JSSF). Here, he specialised in ankle reconstruction, foot and ankle arthroscopy, corrective osteotomy, and ankle preservation techniques. Additionally, he gained valuable experience in knee alignment and replacement.
Following this, Janan completed a fellowship in Bristol, where he worked with prominent foot and ankle surgeons, three of whom were past presidents of the British Foot and Ankle Society (BOFA). As a result, he became proficient in arthroscopic and minimally invasive techniques for a wide range of foot and ankle conditions. Furthermore, at this major centre for ankle arthroplasty, he worked alongside high-volume arthroplasty surgeon Mr. Stephen Hepple on Total Ankle Replacements. During his time in the UK, Janan also completed a Postgraduate Diploma (MIPDEd) in Orthopaedic Surgery.
With a strong background in martial arts, Janan brings a balanced and focused approach to patient care. In addition, he enjoys teaching and mentoring students through his work with the University of Melbourne. Above all, Janan is dedicated to helping his patients return to an active life, prioritising their well-being at the Collaborative Orthopaedic Group.
